Qu, Yongxian

Qu Yongxian is Dai, from the Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, she was born in 1983. She obtained her M.A. from the Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) in 2009. Her thesis focused mainly on the narrative poetry in ritual life of the Dai people. She has recently finished two research projects “The Text Form of Dai Epos” and “The Rhyme Rules in Dai Epos.” As result She published some papers, such as “Searching for the Epos of the Dai People”, “The Text Form of Dai Epos”, “The Dai Women Transmitting the Traditional Poetry in Folk”, “The Dai Folk Singers Living in Seclusion”, “The Oral Tradition in Imminent Danger of Dai-la”, “The Dai-Tai People Groups in Southeast Asia: Two Culture Circles and Difference in Names”. She spent half year in Thailand as a visit scholar at the Institute of Thai Studies, Chulalongkorn University in 2012, then she did some fieldworks in Thailand, Burma, Lao, and Vietnam on the Tai-Thai-Shan ethnic groups. At present, she is studying on a project named “How the Dai Folk Singer ZhangXa (Mo Xa) Transmit Traditional Epos”, meanwhile she pays more attention to the Dai/Tai/Thai/Shan people living in Southeast Asia.
